ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCE (ACE’s) 

ACE’s are traumatic or stressful events that occur during childhood, (typically before age 18). 

These stressful events includes: 

  • Physical, emotional, or sexual abuse
  • Witnessing violence in the home or community
  • Parental Mental Illness or substance use disorder
  • Living in poverty
  • Incarceration of a household member
  • Having a family member attempt or die by suicide 

Research connects these ACE’s to: 

  • Brain development and how the body response to stress 
  • Chronic health problems, mental illness, and substance misuse in adulthood
  • Symptoms of Anxiety and Depression 

Our goal is to help individuals and families cope with the effects of trauma and improve overall health and well-being. For individuals who have experienced ACE’s helpful interventions include: therapy, support groups, psychoeducation & skills development groups.
